Ciela stood before the ruins in front of her. The royal blues of her dress had been left in tatters after her journey, her shoes lost long ago. The wind of the desert whipped her long dark hair behind her, and she stared at the sprawling remains of Gavi’s temple. In her hand, she held the sword that had slayed him an age ago; now she was here to return it to him.
As she walked into the ruined temple, Ciela saw a large, circular slab that would have been right at the entrance when this stood proud and complete generations ago. Once, she was sure it would have been beautifully maintained and cleaned with the devotion of Gavi’s followers. Now, it had grown dull with blood stains. The sword whispered to her, hungry even for the dried blood upon the slab. She continued to walk.
Ciela came upon a stone corridor that lead down into the depths of the temple, which she could already feel was where she needed to go. The entrance was guarded by two stone statues, facing each other. She was fairly certain that they used to hold flames in their outstretched hands in order to light up the temple. Instead, Ciela lit her own torch as she continued into the depths.
As she descended, Ciela entered a room full of stone coffins. Many of the names and deeds of the fallen had been eroded over time, but from the few she could read, Ciela realized that this place was a sanctuary for those most devoted to Gavi’s cause. Those who had died in battle after having killed their own fair share of people. It filled her with a sense of unease - though Zephyrus had died before she was born, his teachings had always been of peace. She moved on.
